In 2019 I had the opportunity to travel to Sweden as a part of a school film exchange. In the middle of 2018 we got in contact with an amazing school over in Sweden called Film & Musikgymnasiet . We began working on two separate projects. We began the process of scripting our two films over video chat and messages frequently till we had an almost perfect script. Near the end of the year the Swedes came over for two weeks where we worked on the production of the two films in our groups. Here we further developed the script and got to work, using new film equipment they had brought over and learnt to work with some exciting new people. We worked hard throughout the two weeks making sure we had every detail filmed and ready to edit, as once they had gone home the production had to end.
At the Beginning of 2019 we set off from New Zealand to go to the hometown of the Swedish school in Norrkoping, Stockholm. For the first week we spent all our time on post production, working on editing and finalizing our two amazing films. Our films were then showcased at their school along with the other work of students from that school. This was an amazing experience I will never forget. I learnt so many new skills and made a new set of friends for life on the other side of the world.
One of the girls from the Swidish school, Maya, made a short documentary of the whole experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IF_myzM6_Qg&t=1s. Here you can watch from the POV of the Swedish school kids as they make their way over to New Zealand and the production process.
Our first short film is called 'The Skinlist' made about a girl who believes she is going crazy when writing appears on her arm. She believes she is being stalked by someone at the school, and you'll never guess who it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k85doNXqFN0.
Our second short film is a comedy called 'Knocked Out' made about two girls who get lost in the forest when out on a school trip. The story follows one of the girls trying to look after the other who has been knocked out, but it doesn't go so well. They soon then have to find their way back.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNplZiZiUqM.
